Somaliland House of elders “Guurti” extended two years term for House of Representatives and also extended three more years for its own term.
In 28 years, the current House of Representative was in the office around 13 years, the first House of elders is serving still and The extension of House of representatives It is the 6th extension since they were elected in 2005 for a 5-year term.
This extension comes as there is a dispute between the political parties in Somaliland over the electoral commission.
Meanwhile, The opposition parties UCID and Waddani party have rejected the term extension granted to the House of Representatives. In a joint statement, UCID and Waddani party said the term extension is illegal and undermines Somaliland’s democratization process.
