doctors at Yashoda hospital in Hyderabad saved the life of Faduma, a 5-year-old girl from Somalia, who was suffering from Wilm’s tumor, a very rare type of kidney cancer.

The 5-year-old patient was brought to the hospital by her family where she got diagnosed with a rare case of a Kidney tumor. When Faduma’s parents and family learnt about her condition, they were left in a state of shock.

‘’Her abdomen was fully bloated with around 30×30 x30 cm mass. The baby was emaciated and very weak. A team of oncologists treated her with chemotherapy followed by surgery. The Oncology team swung into action and conducted all necessary tests for a complete diagnosis and to evaluate all important parameters before conducting the surgery‘’, informed the hospital.

Around 5 Kg tumor was successfully removed in the 8 hours long complicated surgery.

“ It was important for the patient to quickly undergo chemotherapy followed by an operation. It was a very challenging case to remove the entire tumor completely with multiviscreal resection and at the same time preserve important structures in the abdomen, especially in a 5-year-old pediatric patient”, said Dr. Sachin Marda, the Senior Surgical Oncologist and Robotic Surgeon.

Meanwhile, the patient’s family expressed heartfelt gratitude and thanked the hospital staff for providing the best care, support, rehabilitation and guidance to their daughter.

The young patient recovered completely and was discharged from the hospital on November 24, 2021. Post-operation, complete rehabilitative care was also given to the patient, helping the baby to recover from the major operation.
