Horndiplomat-Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi has pardoned 517 prisoners.-Horndiplomat reports
The convicts regained their freedom following a presidential pardon effected by the head of state as part of the country’s 28th independence anniversary commemorations. This is an annual activity undertaken by the president a few days before or after the 18th of May which is the date that the country regained its sovereignty from Somalia.
According to the Presidential statement, the released persons All those who were sentenced for 6 months or 3 months.
But prisoners serving jail terms for terrorism, murder and rape would not be released.
The ex-convicts who are now back in society were released from the Hargeisa, Mandera, Gabiley, Borame, Burao, Berbera, Ainabo, Gara’adag, El-afwein, Dahar, Las anod, Baligubadle and Erigavo prisons.
