Last week, Shaqodoon celebrated the Global Entrepreneurship Week — a time to highlight successful entrepreneurs who serve their communities and to inspire the next generation to engage in entrepreneurial activity while connecting them to potential collaborators, mentors, and even investors.
According to the Global Entrepreneurship Network, 10 million people over 170 countries across the world have held a whopping of 30,000 events to mentor, teach, and stimulate the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Shaqodoon being part of the 20,000 partners working with GEN to take part of these global efforts of bringing the global community together to share ideas and make lasting impactful partnerships, organized three different events during the GEW focusing on empowering women and youth, thus organizing “Somaliland Women Entrepreneurship Day” and “Youth Business Challenge.”
The launch ceremony of the week’s celebration witnessed the attendance of 300 businesswomen under the theme “Somaliland Women Entrepreneurship Day.’, amongst them were members of 240 women who have undertaken a training facilitated by Shaqodoon with the help of BBC Media to increase their business knowledge in areas of financing and management.
Shaqodoon and the BBC Media Action with the Coordination of MESAF support Somaliland women entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses, increase income-generating capacity, productivity and competitiveness, and ultimately create decent employment.
On 21th of November, Shaqodoon has organized a Youth Business Challenge where 5 different businesses pitched their ideas to a jury and awarded them grant seed funding.
In order to increase and encourage innovation and the use of technology in our businesses, Shaqodoon organized Get In The Ring competition on 24th of November where Shaqodoon have brought 6 inspiring and innovative businesses to compete for the chance to join the global entrepreneurship meet up in 2020 for exposure and partnership opportunity.
Over 1,040 attended the three events, 27,000 watched the live-feed on Facebook and it received 743,000 reaches over Facebook and Twitter, with 4 international TVs providing coverage on-air and on the internet, Shaqodoon has provided live-tweeting on all the events reaching regional trending on all three events, and a post blog on all the events.
