Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen met with the President of the Republic of the Sudan, Omar al-Bashir in Khartoum, on Wednesday (December 19).
The high-level Ethiopian delegation also includes State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Hirut Zemene.
Deputy Prime Minister, Demeke Mekonnen told the media , “We discussed frankly about how to develop bilateral relations,” adding :“We agreed to set up committees to implement the agreements, support cooperation between the two countries in various fields, exchange experiences, and address border issues.”
President Omar al-Bashir on his part underscored the strong ties between Ethiopia and Sudan, and called for more cooperation in all fields.
The Deputy Prime Minister also met with representatives of members of the Ethiopian Diaspora community in Sudan and held discussions on government’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its citizens.
Ethiopia and Sudan have enjoyed historic and strong ties in both bilateral and multilateral venues.
