Dr. Mulatu Teshome who has been the fourth President of Ethiopia since 7 October 2013 submitted letter of resignation to leave office
Addis Ababa October 24/2018 The House of Peoples’ Representatives and House of Federation will hold an extraordinary joint session tomorrow to consider a resignation letter from the incumbent Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome.
Dr. Mulatu Teshome who has been the fourth President of Ethiopia since 7 October 2013 submitted letter of resignation to leave office.
The joint session will deliberate on the president’s application for resignation and will elect a new president.
Melese Zenawi, Dr. Negasso Gidada and Girmal Wolde Giorgis served as the nation’s presidents prior to the election of President Mulatu Teshome after the fall of the Derg regime.
President Dr. Mulatu was born in Arjo town in the former Wollega province in 1956 and served his country in various capacities including State Minister of Economic Development and Cooperation, Minister of Agriculture, and Spokesperson of the House of Federation.
He also served in various diplomatic missions including ambassador to Turkey, China, Japan, Thailand and Azerbaijan.
Mulatu was educated in China, receiving his bachelor’s degree in philosophy of political economy and PhD in international law at Peking University. He received his Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in 1990.
Apart from two local languages, Dr. Mulatu is fluent in English, Chinese and French.
