HARGEISA, June 10 (Horndiplomat) — A high-level delegation led by Somaliland’s Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Abdillahi Hassan Aden, conducted a working visit to the port city of Berbera on Tuesday to inspect key economic infrastructure projects and assess progress on development initiatives.
The delegation included the Directors General of the Ministries of Finance and Energy and Minerals, as well as representatives from the World Bank in Somaliland.
The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen monitoring and evaluation of strategic economic projects and infrastructure across the country.
During the visit, the delegation toured the Port of Berbera and the Berbera Free Zone, where they assessed operational activities, service delivery and the level of commercial growth taking place at the facilities.
Officials from the Port of Berbera and the Berbera Free Zone briefed the delegation on ongoing operations, development plans and the role of the facilities in promoting trade, investment and Somaliland’s broader economic growth.
The delegation also inspected various sections of the port, customs facilities and the free zone to gain a first-hand understanding of operational procedures and services provided at the strategic trade hub.

In addition, the delegation visited sites where the World Bank-financed Berbera Power Expansion Project is being implemented by Somaliland’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals.
The team also toured the Berbera Electricity Company’s power generation facility, where officials and technical experts provided updates on electricity generation and energy services in the city.
The visit highlighted the close partnership between the Government of Somaliland and the World Bank, particularly in the development of economic infrastructure and essential public services.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation to accelerate development projects and maximize the impact of investments aimed at boosting economic growth and improving public services.
The projects are considered central to Somaliland’s national development agenda, playing a key role in expanding economic growth, attracting investment, creating employment opportunities and supporting sustainable development for communities across the country.
