HARGEISA, Somaliland — Somaliland firefighters rescued a cat that had been trapped for two days in razor wire attached to a boundary wall at a house in Hargeisa’s Hodan Hilis neighbourhood, the fire service said.
The Somaliland Fire Brigade said the wire had caught the animal by its abdomen, preventing it from escaping.
“The wire attached to the wall had been caught in the cat’s abdomen for two days, leaving it trapped and in distress throughout that time,” the service said in a Facebook statement, translated from Somali.
Images shared by the brigade showed the cat crouching among coils of razor wire atop the wall as firefighters worked to free it. Personnel wearing red uniforms used a large cutting tool, with a ladder positioned beside the wall.
The rescue highlighted the firefighters’ role in responding to emergencies involving animals as well as people. Their intervention brought an end to the animal’s prolonged ordeal and demonstrated care for a vulnerable life.
The service confirmed that the cat had been rescued but did not provide further details about its condition or whether it received veterinary treatment.
