HARGEISA, Somaliland — Veterinarians at Somaliland’s Ministry of Livestock and Rural Development have successfully treated a security detection dog diagnosed with canine transmissible venereal tumour (TVT), the ministry said.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the ministry said the dog worked with security agencies and had received treatment from its veterinary team in Hargeisa.

“Veterinarians from the Ministry of Livestock and Rural Development have successfully treated canine transmissible venereal tumour (TVT), which was found in one of the detection dogs working with security agencies,” the ministry said in Somali.

The ministry did not specify the treatment used, how long it lasted or which security agency employed the dog.

Photographs accompanying the statement showed a veterinary worker wearing protective gloves attending to the dog.
