UK ‘Concerned’ Over Detention of Somaliland Opposition politicians

The Head of the British Office in Hargeisa Stuart Brown said it is “extremely concerned” of The ongoing detentions of Somaliland opposition parties.

Stuart Brown called the government of Somaliland to release immediately of the arrested politicians

“The UK is deeply concerned by the ongoing detention of oppositions politicians in Somaliland. We have called on the government to bring charges or release immediately.”Stuart Brown said on Twitter

Meanwhile, The head of the British office in Hargeisa also called the parties to uphold their commitment to hold elections.

“Encourage all parties to renew dialogue and uphold their commitment to hold parliamentary and local elections without delay,” said Stuart Brown

On November 17, the Police in Somaliland arrested two opposition leaders, Khadar Hussein Abdi, the secretary-general of Waddani, and the spokesperson of the party, Barkhad Jama Batun. Waddani is the main opposition party of Somaliland, which came second in last presidential election.
