Somalia and Kenya agree to normalize relations

Nairobi, April 03 , 2019 – Somalia and Kenya agreed today to normalize relations between the two neighboring countries after a bilateral meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Amb. Ahmed Isse Awad and his Kenyan counterpart Amb. Monica Juma in Nairobi, in which the two sides stressed the need to return the two ambassadors to their stations as an initial step.
According to Somalia foreign Ministry Somalia is committed to strengthening its relations and cooperation with the sister country of Kenya. Somalia is always grateful for Kenya’s support, including the hospitality it has extended to Somali refugees.
Meanwhile, The Kenyan Cabinet Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amb. Monica Juma also welcomes the normalize of relations between Somalia and Kenya.
“We reaffirmed our strong desire to normalise relations and agreed, as a first step, to have our ambassadors return to station.”Amb Monica Juma Said on Twitter.
The Kenyan Foreing Affairs secretary also added

“Received and held a bilateral meeting with Hon Ahmed Issa Awad, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia, on outstanding issues between Kenya and Somalia, in particular concerns arising out of the London conference of 7th February 2019.”
