The Commemorative Statue of HIM Emperor Haile Selassie I was unveiled today (February 10) at the premises of the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa.
The unveiling of the statue which has been an important recognition of the Emperor’s contribution to Africa’s liberation and unity leading up to the founding of the Organization of African Unity in 1963, was graced by Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed, the outgoing Chairman of the African Union, H.E. Paul Kagame, leaders of dozens of African countries, Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu as well as dignitaries and diplomatic corps.
The Commemorative Statue of Emperor Haile Selassie reflects the history of African liberation, integration, and HIM Emperor Haile Selassie’s unquestionable role in the evolution of Africa’s development agenda discourse.
Emperor Haile Selassie had played unparalleled leadership role in the establishment of what was then the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in May 1963, now renamed as The African Union.
The Statue is carved by Ale Felege Selam Art school sculptures of Addis Ababa University.
