Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu delivered a message from Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed to the President of the Republic of the Sudan, Omar al-Bashir today (December 31).
The two sides discussed on bilateral and regional issues of common concern for the mutual benefits of the peoples of the two sisterly countries.
They underlined that the peoples of Ethiopia and Sudan , whom they described as the sons and daughters of the river Nile, have lived side by side for ages both in times of prosperity and diversity.
President Omar al-Bashir said, “We will work to make sure that Ethiopians living in Sudan feel at home.” “Ethiopia’s peace and stability is a matter of our national security concern,” he added.
Minister Workneh said, “We attach significant importance to our relations with the Republic of the Sudan.”
Noting the recent release of over 1000 Ethiopian nationals from Sudan prisons for reasons of clemency, Dr. Workneh said this showcased the fact that the people-to-people ties between the two sisterly countries is being strengthened.
The two sides have also agreed to work together in moving forward the economic integration efforts in the Horn of Africa region as well as the promotion of regional peace and stability.
