Somaliland:SRSG Keating briefs UN Security council on Somaliland Situation

Horndiplomat-The special representative of un secretary-general to Somalia Michael Keating briefs the Security Council meeting on Monday the current situation of Somalia.

Mr.Keating on his annual security council report has especially noted the situation of the clashes between Somaliland-Puntland forces in Tuko-Raq,

“There is a serious danger that long-standing disputes between Puntland and “Somaliland”, and in particular an armed stand-off in Sool, could erupt into violence in the coming days, with potentially grave consequences. This comes very soon after delayed presidential elections and the orderly and peaceful transfer of power that took place in “Somaliland” late last year.” Said, Michael Keating.

On the other SRSG Keating said his office opens for communication channels between two sides and talked to withdraw the armies on the frontlines.

“With the support of international partners including many on this Council, I have urged the leaders of Puntland and “Somaliland” to declare a cessation of hostilities, withdraw their forces, restore the status quo ante, and open channels of communication.”

In early this month special representative of un secretary-general to Somalia Michael Keating and his delegation arrives in Somaliland and met with the president of Somaliland H.E Muse Bihi Abdi  At the Presidential Palace.

After that Meeting Somaliland’s Foreign Minister Dr.Sa’ad Ali Shire Speaks to the media says “The united nations delegation led by the Special Representative of the Secretary general ,Micheal Keating meets with the President of the Republic of Somaliland , discussed on a wide range of issues of the relationship between Somaliland United Nations , the issues were discussed at the meeting was  the politics, democracy security economics, and Aid, the meeting closed for a positive atmosphere and we hope to strengthen the Cooperations of the united nations.”

  1. Take the economic model of Europe and put together three states Somaliland, Djibouti and Somalia. Create a confederation system like Europe and advance system and each state maintain its sovereignty. Time is a big factor to proceed and have a political courage to lead
