Air Arabia, Tuesday, joined Ethiopian Airlines and FlyDubai in maiden flight to Hargeisa’s Egal International Airport of the Republic of Somaliland.The airliner made a touchdown at Somaliland’s capital city at sundown to a rapturous welcome from the country’s top political, traditional and business leaders.
His Excellency the Vice President and Acting President of the Republic, Abdirahman Ismail Zeyli’i, flanked by a score of ministers including that of Aviation, warmly bade the Sharjah-based airline welcome.Image may contain: 3 people“Air Arabia’s decision to launch its services here is a statement of trust that has not gone unnoticed by us. It is also a manifestation of how business relations between the two countries is growing as Air Arabia joins FlyDubai already making shuttle flies between the two sisterly nations,” the Vice President noted.
Faisal Ali Waraabe, UCID leader, Abdirizak Khalif of Waddani and Ahmed Abdi Dheere of the ruling party – Kulmiye, also, added their voices to the cordial reception accorded the airline both at the VIP lounge where a formal reception was held and at the taxiway the airliner was parked by a red carpet leading to its gangway.
FlyDubai makes 4 flights per week to Hargeisa where Ethiopian’s is daily. Air Arabia – dubed the Budget Airline – will start off on two flights per week that may be added on to depending on the need.
Egal International Airport (EIA) appears to have truly attracted international airway pliers as it is also expecting major refurbishment and a new terminal to be added to it by Turkish Airways soon.
