SALARY : 18,000 US Dollars per annum
A vacancy has arisen in Hargeisa for a Project Support Officer at the British Office Somaliland.
The Role:
The Project Support Officer will support the delivery of a portfolio of projects in Somaliland, but with a particular focus on Security and Justice. An understanding of Somaliland law and an ability to translate and interpret legal terms is essential.
This position is offered on a contract basis until 31 March 2017 with the potential for renewal based on performance and resources. The successful applicant will be expected to be a proactive member of the projects team. They will report to the Project Manager based at the British Embassy Addis Ababa.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide logistical support to project delivery through assisting with SME visits and workshops etc as appropriate, including arranging meetings with Somaliland stakeholders
Translation of documents and interpretation in meetings
Financial management and administrative support, including payments and procurement of equipment and consumables
Develop and implement processes to ensure local ownership, ie stock control system
Review local processes at regular intervals and respond flexibly to changes in priorities or operating environment
Liaison with implementing partners in country as appropriate
Monitor risk as appropriate and escalate any issues to Project Manager
Provide regular progress and expenditure reports to Programme team in Addis
Facilitation of visits from the political and project team who are all permanently based in Addis Ababa
Required Skills:
Fluent English and Somali; both written and spoken.
Understanding of the Somaliland legislation and ability to interpret legal terminology;
Excellent organisational skills;
Excellent IT skills (advanced skills in Excel would be desirable);
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate/negotiate with people from a wide range of backgrounds;
Ability to work independently, set priorities, monitor own workload and meet deadlines;
A flexible and proactive approach; willingness to work in support of different areas of Embassy objectives as needed;
Experience in office management, business development or managing a small team based community service.

NOTE:
