Ethiopia, EU Eye Enhanced Partnership
Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu met High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Vice President of the EU Commission, H.E. Federica Mogherini today(February 9).
The two sides discussed on a plethora of issues of regional peace and security, migration, and the positive, overarching political, economic steps undertaken by Ethiopia .
Minister Dr. Workneh commended EU’s support to Ethiopia through its development cooperation, standing by Ethiopia to address its key challenges, such as food insecurity, a rapidly growing population, environmental pressures exacerbated by climate change, and a range of governance issues.
He said, “Ethiopia and the EU enjoy a multi-faceted, multi-dimensional nexus of cooperation. The EU supports the concerted efforts of Ethiopia towards development and economic growth. I’m satisfied about EU, Ethiopia cooperation up scaling towards a deepened, strengthened level of partnership.” he addedEthiopia, EU Eye Enhanced Partnership
H.E. Mrs. Mogherini underscored the paramount importance of this meeting as Ethiopia is leaping onto multidirectional reform process while concomitantly strengthening the partnership between Ethiopia and the EU in various modalities to promote common interests and address common challenges.
She said,” EU supports Ethiopia’s deep reform in political, economic and social aspects towards national consensus and development”
Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh and H.E. Mrs. Mogherini both reiterated, appreciating the strong relations between the EU and Ethiopia, issued joint communiqué on the state of play of their relation as part of the strategic engagement between the EU and Ethiopia, signed on June 2016.Ethiopia, EU Eye Enhanced Partnership
The EU and Ethiopia look back on 42 years of constructive bilateral relations in areas as diverse as development cooperation, trade and economic development, consolidation of democratic institutions, regional peace, and security and migration.
