Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, who arrived in Khartoum earlier today (December 31), met with his Sudanese counterpart, Dr. Al-Dirdiri Mohamed and exchanged views on aspects of bilateral and regional issues.

On the occasion, Minister Workneh underscored that “Sudan remains a priority to Ethiopia’s foreignrelations.”

While noting the sustained political consultations made at higher levels between the two countries, Dr. Workneh said this is a clear testimony that the two sides are committed to strengthen the relationship further ahead and work more closely on issues of mutual benefit to the peoples of Ethiopia and the Sudan.

In such score, the Minister mentioned Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed’s visit to the Sudan on the first week of May 2018, the recent visit of President Omal al-Bashir to Ethiopia and Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen’s visit to the Republic of the Sudan on December 21, 2018.

Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh also noted that the peoples of Ethiopia and Sudan have a common destiny, adding that the two countries have huge potentials for further cooperation.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International cooperation of the Sudan, Dr. Al-Dirdiri Mohamed on his part noted that his country continues to work for the strengthening of relations with Ethiopia.

He said, “We will continue to work for the fortification of our relations at regional and international platforms.”

The Sudanese Minister further said his country appreciates the ongoing political and economic reforms in Ethiopia following the coming to power of the new leadership led by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed.According to Ethiopian Foreign Ministry
