Press Statement

The Somaliland Civil Society Organizations are worrying about the collapse of the dialogue between the ruling part of the government and the opposition political parties regarding the search of solutions for House Representatives and Local Council elections, scheduled to be held on March 2019.

The Civil Society is calling the opposition political parties and the government, to resume the broken dialogue to actualize the vision of the Somaliland people, which is to hold planned elections on its schedule.

The Somaliland Civil Society is calling the leaders of the opposition political parties and the government, to refrain from the inflammatory words via media. Such inflammatory words will not create a stable environment that can lead to reaching successful dialogues.

The Somaliland Civil Society Organizations are proposing to the President of the Republic of Somaliland H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi to lead any compromise that would facilitate and influence the success of the dialogue for the election to take place in the country as it was intended, while the political culture of Somaliland is based on a compromise and consensus building. Civil Society is also encouraging the opposition political parties themselves should show a compromise.

Finally, Somaliland civil society is to remind all parties that elections are concerning to be aware that the people of Somaliland are not ready for further delays to the elections.
