Defence Force Members Apologize For Pursuing Wrong Procedure To Express Grievance
Members of the Ethiopian Defence Force who went to the Prime Minister’s Office with guns have apologized for the wrong procedures they followed to express their grievances.
They apologized to the people and government of Ethiopia in a discussion held today with Motuma Mekassa, Minister of Ethiopian Defense Force, and General Seare Mekonnen, Chief of Staff of the Defense Force.
Motuma said investigation will be held to identify the leaderships who failed to follow the situation closely and respond to grievances of the soldiers at the earliest.
Around 250 members of the Defence Force, who stationed in and around Addis Ababa, went to the Prime Minister’s Office last Wednesday.
They went to the office to express their grievances related to pay and other benefits they receive during periods of deployment.
Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed listened to the grievances carefully and concluded the meeting with a promise to meet properly in the near future to positively consider their demands.
Finally, the Premier ordered them to do 10 push-ups for arriving at his office with guns and following the wrong procedures.
The soldiers also had a discussion with Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen.
