Horndiplomat-EPRDF Congress (that has 180 voting members) today elected Dr Abiy Ahmed as Chairperson and Ato Demeke Mekonnen as Deputy Chairperson in a secret ballot. Dr Abiy Ahmed will lead the ruling party until the next Congress.
According to Fana Broadcasting Corporate, The Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front has concluded its 11th Congress today.
The Congress re-elected Dr Abiy Ahmed and Demeke Mekonnen as Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of EPRDF.
Dr Abiy won 176 of the 177 votes, while Demeke received 149 votes.
Dr Abiy Ahmed will lead the ruling party until the next Congress.
EPRDF picked Dr Abiy as its Chairperson last March following the resignation of the former Chairperson Hailemariam Desalegn.
