Explosion and heavy gunfire heard in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu

Horndiplomat-Two explosions and gunfire are reported in Mogadishu near Sayed Mohamed monument which is not far from the parliament building and offices of the government.

A Witnesses in Mogadishu says a suicide car bomb was detonated outside the building opposite Sayidka junction. Soon after gunmen believed to be about four militants stormed the building.

Meanwhile, sources confirmed Horndiplomat’s at least six people were killed in the attack. The Al-Shabab militant group claimed responsibility for the attack on the ministry of interior. The same building houses the ministry of interior security and the communication office of the road traffic police.

Two employees from the ministry of interior and four Government soldiers are among the dead, per security source. All attackers are dead. The attack comes as the security of the capital was improving following the deployment of significant security forces and erection of roadblocks.
