Ethiopia Secures 2.8 billion US dollars from tourism in the past nine months

Addis Ababa, May 12, 2018 (FBC) –Ethiopia has secured 2.8 billion US dollars from tourism in the past nine months, achieving 75% of earning target.

According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 756,758 tourists have visited the country in the reported period despite plans to attract 1.2 million visitors.

Gezahegn Abate, public and international relations director at the Ministry, told ENA that “the achievement is not good.”

He said security problems occurred in some parts of the country affected tourist flows.

The country planned to attract 1 million tourists in the past three successive years but failed to achieve the target due to various problems, including lack of adequate tourist facilities at tourist destinations.

Ethiopia has a plan to earn 4.5 billion US dollars in this fiscal year which ends on July 7, 2018.
