Horndiplomat-Poet Naema Ahmed Ibrahim AKA (Naema Abwaan Qorane) who has been serving 3 years jail term is released from prison with Presidential Pardon.

On April 15, the regional court in Hargeisa has sentenced Naema Ahmed Ibrahim to three years in prison over charges related to statements she allegedly made in Mogadishu. According to the charge sheet, these statements are “insult and defamation against the state.”

Naema was arrested on 27th January 2018 from Hargeisa Egal International Airport while she was travelling to Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.

The Director of Human Rights Center Guleid Ahmed Jama confirms the release of poet Naima Ahmed Ibrahim.

“I am glad that poet Naema Ahmed Ibrahim has been released on a presidential pardon. She should not have been arrested in the first place. Freedom of speech is protected by the constitution and the international human rights law.”Said Guleid on his Twitter post.
