 CSOs Press statement

Somaliland Civil Society Organizations had series of meetings on the sentence of Naema Ahmed Ibrahim which the Maroodi-Jex Regional Court sentenced for three years term of prison on 15th April 2018.

Moreover, there were members from CSOs who visited in Gabiley Prison where Naciima is currently detained and she confirmed the torture that she stated in front of the court which also her lawyers indicated and requested from the Regional Court to investigate in their letter issued on 10th April 2018 and the Regional Court received on 15th April 2018.

Naciima has confirmed to the members from the civil society that she had experienced a torture and intimidation as her lawyers stated before. Therefore, Somaliland Civil Society is strongly condemning the arrest of Naciima and requesting immediate release of Naciima.

In the meantime, the CSOs are requesting from relevant state institutions to engage independent investigation for the torture and intimidation that Naciima is complaining during her detention.

In addition, Civil Society of Somaliland is requesting from the President of Somaliland H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi to release Naciima Axmed Ibraahim and Mohamed Kayse who was also sentenced for 18 months by the Regional Court on April, 16th 2018.

Finally, the civil society of Somaliland is encouraging to the Executive and Judiciary branches of the State to respect, promote and uphold the citizens’ rights granted by Somaliland Constitution.
