Ethiopia, China furthering cooperation

Ethio-China The two sides signed agreements that would further their strong cooperation.
The Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn said Ethiopia and China are keen to further strengthen their economic cooperation as the two countries signed agreements in various areas including investment, infrastructure, industry and technology.
Holding talks with Chinese President Special Envoy and National Development and Reform Commission Chairman Xu Shaoshi yesterday, Prime Minister Hailemariam said that Ethiopia and China have been engaged in economic cooperation and also envisage consolidating their collaboration in diverse areas.
He said as a strategic partner China is providing support for national development drive through participating in transportation, construction and industrial development.
The Premier said that the agreements with the Chinese Export-Import Bank signed yesterday provides 100 million USD loan for road sector development.
Chairman Xu Shaoshi also said Ethiopia is a symbolic African country that reflects China’s significant role in the continent. The two countries are also working in industry, business and investment for mutual benefit.
He added that the two countries are also successful in the areas of capacity building and strategic cooperation.
The agreement includes loan, industrial investment and technological cooperation MoU.
Accordingly, the construction of Kality Ring Road Inter-change -Tulu Dimtu Roundabout and the Kality-Kilinto Roundabout Road project would be undertaken based on the agreement signed by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Cooperation of Ethiopia with China EXIM Bank.
Besides, the countries have also signed investment agreement on the engagement of Chinese companies in the construction of industrial parks in Ethiopia. The agreement was signed by the Ethiopian Investment Commission and Jiangsu Sunshine Co.Ltd.
They also signed MoU to cooperate in science and technology believed to enable the two countries in the provision of micro-satellite system for addressing climate change and related issues.
The MoU was signed by the Ministry of Science and Technology and Chinese National Development and Reform Commission. The Special Envoy donated a micro satellite to the Ministry on the occasion.
