Somalia:UNDP Programe Administrator Meets With Somalia’s President

HORNDIPLOMAT-The United Nations Development Programme Administrator, Helen Clark, has yesterday payed a historical visit to Somalia, becoming the first UNDP administrator to visit the east African country.According Undp Press Statement-Horndiplomat Reports.

During her visit, Helen Clark met with top government officials including president Hassan Sheik Mohamoud, the prime minster and the speaker of the parliament to discuss on various issues including the coming forth elections and the newly adopted national development plan.

Helen Clark noted that with elections coming up and the new National Development Plan (NDP) nearing finalization, Somalia’s development journey is gaining momentum.

She also met with Women Civil Society organizations, officials of the federal Ministry of Women and Human Rights Development, and a number of goodwill ambassadors appointed by President Hassan Sheikh to promote the women’s parliamentary quota initiative.

In her remarks during the meeting, Helen Clark urged government leaders to support achieving the 30 percent target for women members in both houses of the country’s next parliament expected to be elected later this year.
